Birdcage 2015

The dialogue between the two artworks Birdcage 2015 by Marjo Levlin and Fängelsemammans vaggvisa ( The Jail Mother’s lullaby) 2010 by Kaija Maarika Penttala is a first attempt to a co-operation that was suggested by Penttala to Levlin in 2012. Chance brought the two artists together in another project (SUR l’eau REAL 2013) and Penttala had in 2010, after reading an article about Finnish mothers imprisoned with their children, made this composition.

The aim was to create a video work inspired by the music and the theme, and a first attempt to involve a real prisoner and a mother into the project was made in early summer 2015.

The piece was screened in Forum Box Gallery, Mediabox, Helsinki the fall of 2015.
